June Update From Ani Tsultrim

Dear Dharma Friends,

I truly appreciate that each of you helped make White Jewel Mountain’s Shamatha and Vipassana retreat a success! It was the first time that I heard our new resident teacher, Lopon Robin Gayle, teach and I was amazed at the depth of her Dharma knowledge.

I walked away from the retreat with a much better understanding of the foundational practices of Shamatha and Vipassana.

As a follow-up to our retreat, we are starting a weekly sitting meditation practice here at White Jewel Mountain, which I will lead. This will be held on Sundays at 2 pm and will last an hour. The first sitting session will be held this Sunday, June 9th in our shrine room.

I will give a brief 5–10-minute teaching at the beginning. We then will sit for 2 24-minute sessions. Lopon Robin taught that a 24-minute session which is 1/60th of a 24-hour day is called a ghatika. It was made popular by the eighth century Indian pandita, Kamalashila.

My root guru who ordained me 25 years ago is Adzom Paylo Rinpoche. My second root guru is Tsoknyi Rinpoche. At his retreats every year here in Crestone there are multiple sitting practice sessions of 2-20-minute sessions. In between the sessions there is a 3–5-minute break where people can stand and stretch. We will also have such a break.

I really welcome your feedback on how the sessions go, your input is vital!

I want you to know that I am new to teaching and it is out of my comfort zone. When Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche was here last fall, he told me I must start teaching!

I will try my best!

Looking forward to seeing you Sundays!

Blessings and love,

Ani Tsultrim
